The adjective with ـترین goes before its noun, with no link between them.

How It Works

A plain adjective follows its noun (چای سبز). An adjective with ـترین comes first: کلان‌ترین شهر (the biggest city).

The best is بهترین, and it already has ـترین inside it. Never add a second one. The same word also means the best at something: بهترین دوست (the best friend).

ـترین joins the adjective with a half-space, like ـتر. Add the group after the noun to say where it is the most: بهترین شاگرد صنف (the best student in the class), کلان‌ترین ولایت (the biggest province).

Another way to say the most is از همه and ـتر: مریم از همه خورد‌تر است (Maryam is the youngest of all).

  5. امروز سرد‌ترین روز زمستان است.

    Today is the coldest day of winter.

    سرد‌ترین goes before روز.
