moj / moja / moje; tvoj / tvoja / tvoje
My and Your
Moj means my and tvoj means informal singular your. Their forms agree with the possessed noun: moj grad, moja kuća, moje selo.
How It Works
The nominative singular sets are moj, moja, moje and tvoj, tvoja, tvoje. Learn them in phrases rather than assigning one form permanently to a speaker.
A possessive can stand before the noun or describe an understood noun: Ovo je moja knjiga. and Ova knjiga je moja. Croatian does not need separate English-style forms corresponding to my versus mine here.
The informal singular tvoj is not the ordinary possessive for polite or plural vi; that uses vaš. Later, svoj refers possession back to the clause’s subject and can be more appropriate than moj or tvoj in that construction.
