ç
Cedilla Ç
Ç represents /s/ before a, o, u or at the end of a word.
How It Works
Use ç in words such as plaça, cançó and braç. In the same spelling family, c represents /s/ before e or i: feliç/felices. Do not write ç before e or i in these ordinary Catalan spellings.
Ç is not the only way to spell /s/. S and ss also represent that sound in suitable words and positions. Learn the spelling of the word rather than replacing every /s/ before a with ç. Caça and cassa can both be real forms with different meanings.
When an ending changes, keep the intended consonant sound: braç becomes braços, while començar gives comencem. The cedilla is part of a consonant letter; it neither marks a stressed syllable nor functions like an accent on a vowel.

Common Mistakes
Keeping ç before e in the feminine plural.
Són nenes feliçes.Són nenes felices. The c in felices already represents /s/ before e.
