взема да
Suddenly Deciding with Взема Да
Взема да and взема, че add a sense of suddenness: Ще взема да му се обадя. (I think I'll just call him.) Взе, че си тръгна. (He just up and left.)
How It Works
1. Ще взема да: a spur-of-the-moment decision. With the future it sounds casual, as if the idea just came to you: Ще взема да му се обадя. (I think I'll just give him a call.) The verb after да is usually perfective, as in свършен вид след да.
2. Взе да: a sudden start. In the aorist with да and an imperfective verb, it often means "started to": Детето взе да плаче. (The child started crying.) Взе да се стъмва. (It began to get dark.)
3. Взе, че: something unexpected happened. Both verbs take the same tense and person, joined by че: Взе, че си тръгна. (He just up and left.) Колата взе, че се развали. (The car went and broke down.) It is usually written with a comma before че. In a lively story both verbs can be in the historical present: Взема, че си тръгва.
4. Вземи, че: an impatient suggestion. Two imperatives joined by че push someone to finally act: Вземи, че му кажи истината! (Why don't you just tell him the truth!)
5. Worried "what if". With ако or ами ако it pictures an unwelcome surprise: Ами ако вземе да вали? (What if it suddenly starts raining?)
6. Style. All of these are colloquial. The imperfective взимам / вземам appears in the same patterns. In neutral writing, leave взема out or use започна да.

Common Mistakes
Putting the two verbs in different tenses after че.
Взе, че си тръгва.Взе, че си тръгна.In the взема, че pattern both verbs match in tense and person: взе, че си тръгна (both aorist) or взема, че си тръгва (both present, in a lively story).
Not conjugating взема for the subject.
Тя взех, че си тръгна.Тя взе, че си тръгна.Взема is a normal verb here and agrees with the subject: аз взех, ти взе, тя взе, те взеха.
