много
Very, Much and Many
Много means very or a lot: много хубав (very nice), много хора (many people).
How It Works
Много is one word for several English words. What it means depends on the word next to it.
- Before an adjective or adverb it means very: много хубав (very nice), много добре (very well), много студено (very cold).
- Before a noun it means much, many or a lot of: много хора (many people), много вода (a lot of water). No word for of is needed.
- With a verb it means a lot or very much: Работя много. (I work a lot.) Много те обичам. (I love you very much.)
Plural after много. A noun you can count goes into the plural: много книги (many books). A noun you cannot count stays singular: много време (a lot of time). Masculine nouns use the ordinary plural here, not the special form used after numbers: много столове (many chairs), but два стола (two chairs). See the count form.
More and most. Standard Bulgarian does not use по-много. The word for more is повече, and most is най-много.
To ask how much or how many, use колко. Много благодаря and Благодаря много both mean thank you very much.
