благодаря/мерси
Saying Thank You
Благодаря! Thank you! · Много благодаря! Thank you very much! · Мерси! Thanks! (informal)
How It Works
- Благодаря fits every situation. Много благодаря or Благодаря много means "thank you very much".
- Мерси comes from French and sounds casual. It is common with friends and in shops, but choose благодаря in formal speech and writing.
- Whom you thank: благодаря takes the short indirect-object pronouns ти, Ви, ви: Благодаря ти! (to one friend), Благодаря Ви! (polite address to one person or a group), Благодаря ви! (familiar address to several people). See кратки дателни местоимения ми/ти/му/ѝ/ни/ви/им.
- What for: за + noun: Благодаря за помощта (Thank you for the help). For an action use , че + verb: Благодаря, че дойде (Thank you for coming).
- As a verb: благодаря changes like говоря: Благодарим! (We thank you!)
Common replies are моля (you are welcome) and Няма защо (no problem).
