dobro došli

Welcome

Level 2

Welcome people with dobro došao, dobro došla or dobro došli.

How It Works

This welcome comes from the verb doći, "to come". It literally reads "well come". It agrees with the person you are welcoming.

WhoWelcome
a manDobro došao!
a womanDobro došla!
a groupDobro došli!

To name the place, add u and the accusative, because you are coming to a place: Dobro došli u Sarajevo! At home you can use Dobro došli kod nas.

For one person you can add the name: Dobro došla, Selma! A mixed group of men and women takes the masculine plural, dobro došli.

You may also see the single word dobrodošli on signs. This course writes the greeting as two words.

    Dobro došla, Lejla!

The ending has to match the person: Lejla is a woman.
