Adverbs From Adjectives
Many adverbs are the neuter form of an adjective: dobar dobro, lijep lijepo, brz brzo.
How It Works
| Adjective | Adverb | Example |
|---|---|---|
| dobar | dobro | Dobro radiš. |
| lijep | lijepo | Lijepo pjevaš. |
| brz | brzo | Brzo vozi. |
| loš | loše | Loše spava. |
| spor | sporo | Govori sporo. |
Adjectives ending in -ski use the masculine form as the adverb: Govori bosanski. Some adverbs have a special form, such as polahko (slowly). The adverb malo (a little) comes from mali (small) but has a different meaning, so learn it as its own word.
The adjective agrees with a noun: lijepa kuća. The adverb does not agree with anything: Ona lijepo pjeva.
Compare On je brz (he is fast, an adjective) with On brzo trči (he runs fast, an adverb).
