egina dut / eginda daukat
Having It Done
Say what is done and ready: Lana egina dut or Lana eginda daukat (I have the work done).
How It Works
1. The -ta form. Participle + -ta, or -da after n or l: irekita, prestatuta, erosita, eginda, esanda. It never changes for number. Use egon for the thing itself and eduki for the person who has it (see states with -ta and eduki):
- Atea irekita dago. (The door is open.)
- Sarrerak erosita dauzkagu. (We have the tickets bought.)
2. The -a form. Participle + the article -a (plural -ak). It agrees with the thing, like an adjective:
- Lana egina dut. (I have the work done.)
- Liburu guztiak irakurriak ditut. (I have all the books read.)
3. Action or state?
- Afaria prestatu dut. (I have made dinner.) The action, see the present perfect.
- Afaria prestatuta daukat. (I have dinner ready.) The state now.
4. Regional patterns. All of these are standard, but areas prefer different ones (see the dialects). The West uses -ta with egon and eduki, and this is very common in everyday speech in the south. Central speech often uses -a with egon and eduki (egina daukat). The East uses -a with izan and ukan (egina dut, joana da).
Tip: In formal writing, a participle with -a and izan can sound like a passive. See argitaratua da.
Examples (6)
- Lana egina dut.
I have the work done.
egin + -a, with ukan (dut).
- Lana eginda daukat.
I have the work done.
The same idea with -da and eduki. After n, -ta becomes -da.
- Atea irekita dago.
The door is open.
- Sarrerak erosita dauzkagu.
We have the tickets bought.
The -ta form stays the same, but eduki agrees with the plural sarrerak.
- Liburu guztiak irakurriak ditut.
I have all the books read.
With -a, the participle agrees: irakurriak.
- Afaria prestatuta dago.
Dinner is ready.
Common Mistakes

Using the singular form of eduki for several things.
Sarrerak erosita daukagu.Sarrerak erosita dauzkagu.eduki agrees with what you have. For plural sarrerak, use dauzkagu.
