Best Apps to Learn Luxembourgish in 2026

Luxembourgish became the national language of Luxembourg under a 1984 law, and 48.9 percent of residents named it as their main language in the 2021 census. Even so, many big language apps do not teach it. Much of the help comes from the country's own language institute and from small apps made for Luxembourgish.

Here are the apps and services that help you learn Luxembourgish, grouped by what they help you do. You can start with one and add another when you need it.

Custom Lessons Made for You

Bubblegum

Bubblegum suits learners who want Luxembourgish built around their own lives. Tell Poppy, your AI tutor, what you want to learn. She writes lessons for your level and helps you understand the words and grammar. You can read and listen, and ask her about anything that is unclear. News and stories give you more Luxembourgish to read about the things you care about.

The trade-off is that Bubblegum does not replace real Luxembourgish voices. For recorded speakers, uTalk is the better fit. For a fixed course, try LLO.LU, and for conversation, try the apps in Learn With People.

          Free Official Courses and Dictionaries

Luxembourg's Ministry of Education and its language institute, the Institut national des langues, offer several resources for learners. LLO.LU, short for Léier Lëtzebuergesch Online, is a free course for anyone in the world. It runs on the web and in an iPhone and Android app, with lessons from A1 to B2. Each topic comes with videos, explanations, and exercises. The institute also teaches Luxembourgish classes at the same four levels, in person and online.

LOD.lu is the official Luxembourgish dictionary, and its free app gives translations into German, French, English, and Portuguese, with example sentences and audio of how words sound. The Ministry of Education also lists the courses and exams for citizenship, including the Sproochentest. For listening, RTL Lëtzebuerg broadcasts news and entertainment in Luxembourgish, and its RTL Play app streams the shows and original podcasts.
