Best Apps for Slovak Comprehensible Input in 2026

Stories, audio, and videos can all help you learn Slovak when you can follow what they mean. That is the idea behind comprehensible input: learning from Slovak you can mostly understand. Learners on r/Slovakia say there is very little made for people learning Slovak, so Slovak at your level takes some searching.

These apps and sites help you find Slovak you can follow, or make the Slovak you choose easier to understand. For courses, speaking practice, and tutors, see our Slovak app comparison.

Custom Lessons Made for You

Bubblegum

Learn Slovak with a path made just for you. Start with your level, what you like, and why you want to learn. Your path grows as you learn, with new lessons that fit you. Bubblegum also has news and stories, so you can read and listen to a mix of Slovak about music, food, family, or daily life.

Poppy, your AI tutor, writes each lesson for you. If a sentence is hard to follow, just ask her to explain a word or what an ending adds to it.

The trade-off is that Bubblegum can't help you read Slovak you found yourself. For a show, a book, or an article you already picked, the tools in Read and Watch Slovak You Choose are the better fit.

Another says Netflix has few titles with Slovak subtitles. For articles, books, and web pages you pick, this tool helps with new words.

More Slovak to Watch, Hear, and Read

Many learners on r/Slovakia recommend Learn Slovak with Stories, a YouTube channel of stories in easy Slovak about fairy tales, recipes, and the history of Bratislava. Learners say its teacher speaks slowly and draws what she describes, so you can follow without English. On YouTube, Comprehensible Slovak also has short stories for A1 and A2 learners, and Joyful Slovak, from a Slovak tutor, has slow everyday dialogues. Comenius University's free e-Slovak site has Katherine in Slovakia, a 12-episode video series for A1 and A2 learners. We Learn Slovak has free listening and reading exercises built on real articles and videos.

For listening, Learn Slovak Through Stories with Robert reads simple stories slowly and clearly, and marks each episode with a level such as B1. For children's shows, STVR's Pre deti pages have fairy tales and children's programs from Slovak TV and radio to watch or hear online. Someone on r/Slovakia suggests večerníčky, the bedtime cartoons, because they are simple to understand. Frequently Asked Questions

Can I learn from Czech shows and books?

Czech and Slovak are so close that speakers of the two usually understand each other, and Czech is common in Slovak media. Some children's shows only come with Czech dubbing. Even so, Slovaks on Reddit suggest that beginners stay with Slovak, because the small differences can confuse you at first. Add Czech once Slovak feels comfortable.

Can I read along while I listen?

Yes. Slovak is mostly written the way it sounds, and the stress always falls on the first syllable of a word. The alphabet has 46 letters, because letters with marks, such as č, ľ, and ä, and pairs such as ch and dz count as letters of their own. Once you know them, you can follow a text while you hear it.

How much of a text should I understand?

Pick something where you already know almost every word. In one study, readers needed to know about 98 out of 100 words in a story to follow it well. If you stop on almost every line, try something easier.

          Is Bubblegum free?

Yes. The lesson library is free for everyone, because we believe everyone should be able to learn. It holds lessons that other learners asked Poppy for. A new custom lesson costs us real money to make, so you can ask Poppy for a free one, and Bubblegum Pro gives you unlimited custom lessons.
