シ, ツ, ソ and ン
Four katakana that look almost the same.
The Tricky Four
シ, ツ, ソ and ン are the four everyone mixes up.
You already know two of them! シ is し and ツ is つ, and they keep the same pictures you learned.
Which Way the Stroke Goes
Only one thing tells all four apart, and that is the direction the long stroke travels.
Watch each one being written. Each long stroke goes the same way its hiragana does.
し sweeps UP from the bottom left, and so does シ.
つ comes DOWN from the top right, and so does ツ.
そ zigzags DOWN, and ソ takes the same downward line.
ん finishes with an UPWARD flick, and so does ン.
