Jamo & Stroke Order

Jamo

Korean letters have a special name and follow a specific order, just like the English alphabet.

Hangul letters are called 자모 (jamo), which means "letter components."

• 자 (ja) = letter, character • 모 (mo) = mother, origin

All consonants and vowels you've learned are jamo.

Jamo come in two kinds:

• 자음 (jaeum) = consonants ("child sounds") • 모음 (moeum) = vowels ("mother sounds")

Vowels are "mother" because every syllable needs one.
