-moqchi edi
Was Going to: -moqchi Edi
-moqchi edi means was going to or meant to: Kecha kelmoqchi edim (I was going to come yesterday).
How It Works
Form. Replace the -moq of the dictionary form with -moqchi, then add edi with the person ending:
- kelmoq → kelmoqchi edim (I was going to come)
- kelmoqchi eding (you, familiar), kelmoqchi edi (he or she), kelmoqchi edik (we), kelmoqchi edingiz (you, polite), kelmoqchi edilar (they)
Negative. Negate with emas, not with -ma-: kelmoqchi emas edim (I did not mean to come).
A plan that changed. It often comes with lekin or ammo and the reason the plan fell through: Kecha kelmoqchi edim, lekin vaqtim boʻlmadi.
A polite wish. In a request, the past makes the wish sound softer, like English I wanted to or I would like to: Sizdan bir narsa soʻramoqchi edim, Shu kitobni sotib olmoqchi edim. Here the speaker still wants it now.
Compare. -(a)digan edi also looks at a plan from the past, but as something arranged: keladigan edi (he was supposed to come). kelmoqchi edi is about what he wanted or meant to do.
