Borrowed Plural Patterns

Level 4

saaxiib → asxaab changes the stem; macallin → macallimiin uses -iin.

How It Works

The source lists asxaab/asxaabta alongside saaxiibbo/saaxiibbada, and kuraas/kuraasta alongside kursiyo/kursiyada. Learn the complete alternatives, including their articles.

The Arabic-style pattern extends to non-Arabic buug: its usual listed plural is buugaag/buugaagta. The source also records rarely used buugag/buugagga. It lists macallimiin/macallimiinta without a regular Somali plural.

These borrowed plural forms have -ta/-da articles; -iin yields -iinta. Directly after numerals greater than one, the nouns instead take their counting forms, here ordinarily matching the singular. Plural vocabulary and counting syntax are separate facts.
