Official Referring Words
Official texts refer back with uvedený (mentioned), vyššie uvedený (given above), spomenutý (mentioned), predmetný (in question) and dotyčný (concerned): uvedená suma, dotyčná osoba.
How It Works
The main words.
- uvedený, spomenutý: mentioned, stated. Both are passive participles: uvedená suma (the amount stated).
- vyššie uvedený / nižšie uvedený: given above / given below.
- predmetný: in question, the one this document is about: predmetný pozemok. It is typical of administrative language.
- dotyčný: concerned, in question, usually about a person: dotyčná osoba. It is also used as a noun: Dotyčný sa neozval (The person in question did not get in touch), like other adjectives used as nouns.
Agreement. All of them agree like ordinary adjectives: uvedený údaj, uvedená suma, uvedené údaje; o uvedenej sume.
Outdated forms. Slovak language guides rate horeuvedený and doleuvedený as outdated and recommend uvedený, predtým uvedený or ďalej uvedený. The phrases vyššie uvedený and nižšie uvedený are common and written as two words, but plain uvedený is usually enough.
Register. These words belong to the nominal style of official Slovak. In everyday speech, ten or tá is enough: tá suma, ten pozemok. The literary onen does a similar job in bookish texts.
