नेनपन / मिठास
Making Abstract Nouns
-पन and -आस turn a word into a noun that names a state.
How It Works
These endings build abstract nouns, words for a state or quality. Learning them lets you read many new words at once.
| Word | Ending | New word | Meaning |
|---|---|---|---|
| नेना | -पन | नेनपन | childhood |
| मीठ | -आस | मिठास | sweetness |
| सुन्दर | -ता | सुन्दरता | beauty |
- -पन is for everyday words and names a stage or state of being.
- -आस is for a few short adjectives, often with a vowel change (मीठ gives मिठास).
- -ता is for formal and Sanskrit-like words.
The new nouns behave like other nouns: they take -क (नेनपनक), मे and सँ. You do not need to learn a gender for them. Hindi says बचपन, and many Maithili speakers use it too; नेनपन is the Maithili word.
