rachainn / rachaimis

Synthetic Conditional Persons

Level 6

Rachainn and rachaimis encode their subjects in conditional endings. Do not add a redundant ordinary subject pronoun to every synthetic form.

How It Works

Rachainn and rachaimis encode their subjects in conditional endings. Do not add a redundant ordinary subject pronoun to every synthetic form.

Rachainn and rachaimis are conditional forms of téigh. The endings supply I and we respectively. A following condition can state the imagined circumstance; an ordinary extra mé or muid is not required to identify the subject already encoded by the ending.

Examples (3)

  1. Rachainn ann dá mbeadh am agam.

I would go there if I had time.

  2. Rachaimis abhaile dá mbeadh an obair déanta.

We would go home if the work were done.

  3. Ní rachainn amach inniu.

I would not go out today.
