abair / déarfaidh

Saying in Present and Future

Level 3

Abair has present deir and future déarfaidh: Deir sí é; Déarfaidh sí é. Its irregular behavior includes how particles combine with the initial sound.

How It Works

Abair has present deir and future déarfaidh: Deir sí é; Déarfaidh sí é. Its irregular behavior includes how particles combine with the initial sound.

Abair uses deir in the present and déarfaidh in the future. Its d does not follow every ordinary lenition expectation: the standard negative future is ní déarfaidh. The question can eclipse it, as in an ndéarfaidh; the past is dúirt.

Examples (3)

  1. Deir sí é gach lá.

    She says it every day.

  2. Déarfaidh sí é amárach.

    She will say it tomorrow.
