a haon a dó a trí

Independent Counting

Level 2

Counting without a following noun uses forms such as a haon, a dó and a trí. These differ from noun-counting and personal numerals.

How It Works

Counting without a following noun uses forms such as a haon, a dó and a trí. These differ from noun-counting and personal numerals.

When reciting numbers or naming a number without its noun, the counting series includes a haon, a dó and a trí. These are not the forms used unchanged before every counted object. Compare the recital a dó with dhá bhád, two boats.
