mig / þig / hann / hana
Object Pronouns (Accusative)
mig me · þig you · hann him · hana her · það it · okkur us · ykkur you all · þá / þær / þau them.
How It Works
Subject and accusative side by side
- ég → mig, þú → þig
- hann → hann, hún → hana, það → það
- við → okkur, þið → ykkur
- þeir → þá, þær → þær, þau → þau
When to use it
- As the direct object of most verbs: Ég elska þig. Ég hitti þá í gær. See The Accusative.
- After prepositions that take the accusative, such as fyrir (for) and um (about): Þetta er fyrir þig.
- In fixed phrases like hringja í (call): Hringdu í mig.
Watch out
Some verbs take the dative instead: Ég hjálpa honum, not hann. See Dative Pronouns. A few verbs even put the person who feels something in the accusative: mig langar (I want).
Word order
A short object pronoun comes before ekki: Ég þekki hana ekki. (I don't know her.) See Not (ekki).

Common Mistakes
Using the subject form as the object.
Ég elska þú.Ég elska þig.The person you love is the object, so þú becomes þig.
Keeping hún as an object.
Ég þekki hún.Ég þekki hana.hún is only the subject form. As an object it is hana.
Keeping þeir as an object.
Ég hitti þeir í gær.Ég hitti þá í gær.þeir becomes þá when it is the object.
