בלי ש־
Without an Event Happening
בלי ש means without a situation happening or being true. The clause can have its own subject, distinct from the main actor.
How It Works
Clause or Infinitive?
יצאתי בלי לדבר uses an infinitive for without speaking. יצאתי בלי שדנה תראה אותי uses a complete clause to state another participant. Attach ש to that clause’s first word.
Time and Possibility
סיימנו בלי שהמחשב התקלקל describes an absent breakdown during the completed task. אפשר ללמוד בלי שאצטרך לצאת מהבית presents an unwanted need that can be avoided. Choose the actual verb construction from the intended situation; the main tense alone does not mechanically determine the subordinate form.
Read Negation in Context
בלי ש presents the clause's situation as absent in these examples. Do not add לא automatically when building this pattern. In actual Hebrew, לא after בלי ש can sometimes be an extra negative word that does not reverse the meaning. In other contexts it can carry its ordinary negative meaning. Read the whole situation before deciding what happened.
