ו means and and is written together with the next word. It can join words, phrases or whole clauses.

How It Works

Write It Together

Join the prefix to its word: קפה ותה. A separate ו with a following space is not the normal spelling of this conjunction.

Connect Clauses Too

אני קורא ודנה כותבת joins two statements. ו is not limited to words in a list.

Spelling and Speech

Unpointed ו hides several standard readings. In carefully pointed texts, forms such as וּ can appear before particular sounds. These are reading conventions, not a reason to mark the common spoken ve pattern as unintelligible or to import Biblical narrative tense rules into a modern sentence.
