Reporting Without Naming a Source
Formal passive expressions such as λέγεται ότι or αναφέρεται ότι introduce a report without an explicit reporting agent.
How It Works
Formal passive expressions such as λέγεται ότι or αναφέρεται ότι introduce a report without an explicit reporting agent.
They can distance the writer from the report and do not by themselves certify its truth. The following clause has its own subject, tense and agreement.
| Greek | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Λέγεται ότι θα παραιτηθεί. | It is said that he or she will resign. |
| Αναφέρεται ότι η γέφυρα έκλεισε. | It is reported that the bridge closed. |
| Θεωρείται ότι η λύση είναι ασφαλής. | It is considered that the solution is safe. |
