Present Forms in Past Narration
A narrator can use present forms to make a past event vivid or immediate.
How It Works
A narrator can use present forms to make a past event vivid or immediate.
The surrounding story establishes past time, so a present verb need not move the event to the actual present. Keep the narrative viewpoint coherent and use time expressions when a shift might confuse the reader.
