blive + Past Participle
Blive-Passive
The blive-passive is the most common way to describe a specific event where something happens to someone or something. It uses the auxiliary verb blive (to become) followed by a past participle.
How It Works
The blive-passive is formed by conjugating the verb blive and adding the past participle of the main verb.
1. Tense Formation:
- Present: Bilen bliver vasket (The car is being washed).
- Past: Bilen blev vasket (The car was washed).
- Present Perfect: Bilen er blevet vasket (The car has been washed). Note that er is always used as the auxiliary for blive in perfect tenses.
2. Participle Invariance:
In this construction, the past participle is invariant. This means it does not change to match the gender or number of the subject. It always stays in its basic singular/neuter form (usually ending in -et or -t).
3. Usage vs. Være-passive:
It is crucial to distinguish between the blive-passive (action) and the være-passive (state).
• Døren blev lukket = Someone closed the door (Action).
• Døren var lukket = The door was already closed (Resulting state).

Using 'blive' when the shop was already closed when you arrived.
Different MeaningButikken blev lukket, da jeg kom.Butikken var lukket, da jeg kom.Use 'være' to describe a state or result, and 'blive' to describe the action of closing.
