ovaj taj onaj
This and That
Near me, near you, far away: ovaj, taj, onaj.
How It Works
| masculine | feminine | neuter | |
|---|---|---|---|
| near me | ovaj | ova | ovo |
| near you | taj | ta | to |
| far from both | onaj | ona | ono |
Plural: ovi, ove, ova, then ti, te, ta, then oni, one, ona, for masculine, feminine and neuter nouns.
Use ova kafa for the cup in your hand and ta kafa for the cup next to your friend. Onaj most is the bridge across the river.
Taj has a second job: it points back to something you just talked about, like that in English. Ta ideja je dobra means that idea is good.
The pronoun forms ovo, to and ono also stand alone, as in Šta je to? (What is that?), and they stay the same whatever the gender of the thing.
