dobro jutro / dobar dan
Greetings for the Time of Day
The greeting changes with the time of day, and each one agrees with its noun.
How It Works
These greetings are polite and work with anyone. They are short wishes: good morning, good day, good evening.
| Time | Greeting |
|---|---|
| morning | dobro jutro |
| day, afternoon | dobar dan |
| evening | dobro veče |
| going to bed | laku noć |
The adjective changes because the noun has a gender: neuter dobro, masculine dobar. In laku noć the feminine adjective ends in -u, because the wish is in the accusative. You can learn the phrases whole. Many people start the day with dobro jutro until about ten or eleven, then switch to dobar dan. Exact times differ from person to person.
