How It Works
| Poppy's choice | Also heard | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| voz | vlak | train |
| bašča | bašta | garden |
| komšija | susjed | neighbour |
| sto | stol | table |
None of these is a mistake. Vlak is accepted in Bosnian and is the usual word in Croatia. Bašča has a Bosnian feel, and bašta is heard as well. Susjed is an ordinary Bosnian word and is common in formal texts too.
The two words for table have slightly different forms: sto becomes stola in the genitive, and stol becomes stola too. In the locative, you use na stolu either way.
Pick one form for your own writing and stay with it inside a text. Mixing voz and vlak in one paragraph looks unplanned.
