Liking Activities with Любіць
Я люблю чытаць. (I like to read.) Ён любіць музыку. (He loves music.)
How It Works
The present tense: я люблю, ты любіш, ён/яна любіць, мы любім, вы любіце, яны любяць. The л appears only in люблю; see the я form.
1. Любіць + infinitive: activities you enjoy.
- Я люблю чытаць. (I like to read.)
- Ты любіш гатаваць? (Do you like cooking?)
Because it is about a habit or a lasting liking, the infinitive is usually imperfective: люблю чытаць, not a one-time action.
2. Любіць + noun: people and things you love. The noun is in the accusative:
- музыка → Ён любіць музыку. (He loves music.) A feminine noun in -а changes to -у; see the feminine accusative.
- Я люблю чай. (I love tea.) An inanimate masculine noun does not change.
Любіць or падабацца? Любіць is a lasting love or habit. For "I like this one" or a first impression, Belarusian usually says мне падабаецца: Мне падабаецца гэты горад. (I like this city.)

Common Mistakes
Leaving out the л in the я form.
Я любю чытаць.Я люблю чытаць.After б the я form adds л: люблю. The other forms have no л: любіш, любяць.
Leaving the object in the nominative.
Ён любіць музыка.Ён любіць музыку.The thing you love is the object of the verb, so a feminine noun in -а takes -у.
Conjugating the second verb.
Я люблю чытаю.Я люблю чытаць.After любіць the activity stays in the infinitive.
