Verbs with Both Aspects
Двухвідавыя дзеясловы are both aspects at once: Вучоныя даследуюць возера (are researching) or За адно лета яны даследавалі ўсё возера (researched, completely).
How It Works
Most verbs are either imperfective or perfective. A small group uses one form for both. Examples include:
- даследаваць (research)
- гарантаваць (guarantee)
- атакаваць (attack)
- інфармаваць (inform)
- раніць (wound)
Reading the context. Time words and the situation show the aspect:
- Вучоныя ўжо шмат гадоў даследуюць гэтае возера. (Scientists have been researching this lake for years.) This is ongoing, so it is imperfective.
- За адно лета экспедыцыя даследавала ўсё возера. (In one summer the expedition researched the whole lake.) This is complete, so it is perfective.
The future. Буду даследаваць is always the ongoing future. The simple form даследую can mean I research or I will research, and context decides.
Not every -аваць loanword. Many verbs in -аваць are two-aspect, but not all. Belarusian dictionaries list арганізаваць as perfective only, with the imperfective арганізоўваць. Russian treats организовать as two-aspect, so this is an easy place to slip. When unsure, check whether the dictionary gives an imperfective partner. Such partners are secondary imperfectives.
No prefix needed. These verbs do not need a prefix to become perfective. Даследаваць is already perfective when the context needs it.

Common Mistakes
Using буду with a two-aspect verb for a completed result.
За адно лета экспедыцыя будзе даследаваць усё возера.За адно лета экспедыцыя даследуе ўсё возера.За адно лета names the time needed to finish the whole job, so the verb must be perfective. Буду + infinitive is always the ongoing future. Use the simple form даследуе, which here means will research.
Treating арганізаваць as two-aspect for an action in progress.
Зараз мы арганізуем канцэрт.Зараз мы арганізоўваем канцэрт.The intended meaning is We are organizing a concert right now. Belarusian dictionaries list арганізаваць as perfective only, so арганізуем means we will organize. For an ongoing action, use арганізоўваць.
