How It Works
Meaning. Для таго каб gives the purpose of an action, like каб alone. It is longer, so it puts more weight on the purpose and is common in formal and written language. Дзеля таго каб is a synonym.
Same subject: infinitive. Я вучу мову для таго, каб разумець бабулю. I learn and I understand.
Different subject: past-tense form. Настаўнік паўтарыў правіла для таго, каб усе зразумелі. (The teacher repeated the rule so that everyone would understand.) See каб with the past tense.
Commas.
- When the purpose comes first, keep the conjunction together and put the comma after the clause: Для таго каб добра гаварыць па-беларуску, трэба кожны дзень практыкавацца.
- When the purpose comes after the main clause, the comma can go before каб, which stresses the purpose: Мы прыйшлі рана для таго, каб заняць месцы. It can also go before the whole conjunction: Мы прыйшлі рана, для таго каб заняць месцы.
Not doing something: для таго, каб не + infinitive: Ён запісаў адрас для таго, каб не забыць. (He wrote the address down so as not to forget it.) See каб не.

Splitting the conjunction when the purpose clause comes first.
