iezadazu
Commands with a Receiver
Eman iezadazu means "Give (it) to me". The form iezadazu shows who gets it.
How It Works
In Commands With zaitez and ezazu, ezazu has no receiver: Ireki ezazu (Open it). When the action goes to someone, the form must show that person, just as dizut and dit do in Giving and Telling.
Speaking to zu, with one thing as object:
- iezadazu: to me. Eman iezadazu (Give it to me).
- iezaiozu: to him or her. Esan iezaiozu (Tell him).
- iezaguzu: to us. Ekar iezaguzu (Bring it to us).
- iezaiezu: to them. Idatz iezaiezu (Write to them).
Several things as object add -zki-: Eman iezazkidazu giltzak (Give me the keys). Speaking to zuek, add -e: Eman iezadazue.
The verb comes first as a radical: eman, esan, ekar, idatz. See The Verb Radical.
Short forms. Some common verbs have a short form that the Academy accepts in writing too: emadazu (not emaidazu) and esaiozu. The full form eman iezadazu is always correct.
Negatives. Write ez as a separate word: Ez iezaiozu ezer esan (Do not tell him anything). See Don't.
