Poland's state certificate in Polish as a foreign language is the official proof of how well you speak Polish. A state commission, the Państwowa Komisja, sets the exams, and approved exam centers in Poland and abroad hold them. Foreigners and Polish citizens who live abroad can both take it, however they learned Polish.

The list of exam centers for each session comes out about two months before it, and that is when sign-up opens at each center.
Dates checked Oct 24, 2026
None of the sessions through 2027 offers A2. The exams for younger learners run on December 5–6, 2026 (B2), June 12–13, 2027 (B1 and B2) and November 27–28, 2027 (B2). To sign up, you pick a center from the official list, register on its website by its deadline, and pay the fee to that center. If you pass, you pay the certificate fee to your center, and the certificate comes through the center about a month later. It has no expiration date.
To get ready for the listening and reading parts, read and listen to lots of Polish you mostly understand. This is called comprehensible input.
- Read and Listen Each WeekPick Polish stories or news with audio where you know almost every word, and go through two or three of them each week.
- Practice With Sample TestsEvery level has sample tests and sets of practice tasks. Do one test with a timer before you sign up.
Bubblegum
For serious learners, Bubblegum is the best app to learn Polish. You learn from Polish you can mostly understand, which is called comprehensible input.
Poppy, your AI tutor, turns the subjects you pick into Polish lessons at your level. Bubblegum's levels go from 1 to 6 and are not certificate levels.
- Choose “Pass a Polish Exam” as a goal when you sign up, and Poppy plans lessons around it and the topics you enjoy.
- If you get stuck on a Polish sentence, Poppy explains it while you read.
- Each word you save turns up again in a fresh Polish lesson, thanks to Regenerative Review™. Your saved words can go to Anki as well.
- Clear, expressive AI voices read every lesson aloud, with a different voice for each speaker.
- Bubblegum has no grammar exercises. For the exam's grammar part, work through a Polish grammar workbook.
- A new custom lesson costs us real money to make, so your first one is free, and Bubblegum Pro gives you unlimited custom lessons. The lesson library is free for everyone, because we believe everyone should be able to learn.

Which level do I need for Polish citizenship?
B1 or higher. For recognition as a Polish citizen, the B1 certificate is one way to prove your Polish. Your voivodeship office handles the application and can confirm what it accepts.
How soon can I retake the exam?
There is no waiting time. If you don't pass, you can sign up again for the next session that offers your level.
Is Bubblegum free?
Yes. The lesson library is free for everyone, because we believe everyone should be able to learn. It holds lessons that other learners asked Poppy for. A new custom lesson costs us real money to make, so your first one is free, and Bubblegum Pro gives you unlimited custom lessons.
