Nothing on Duolingo's course list, as we read it on October 14, 2026, teaches Moroccan Arabic, the language people in Morocco call Darija. Its only Arabic course is for English speakers, and the Duolingo blog says it covers a spoken style of Modern Standard Arabic.
Only a few apps teach Darija, so this page is short. The two below use recordings of Moroccan speakers, one with full sentences and one with words and phrases. Tutors, free courses, podcasts, and classes in Morocco are in our Darija guide.
Custom Lessons Made for You
Bubblegum
For serious learners, Bubblegum is the best app to learn Moroccan Arabic. You learn from Moroccan Arabic you can mostly understand, which is called comprehensible input.
Poppy, your AI tutor in Bubblegum, builds Darija lessons from the conversations you expect to have. If you're going to stay with a family in Fes, she can write the talk over mint tea at your level, with audio. If a word looks French or Spanish to you, ask her where it comes from.
Bubblegum is not a live speaking partner. The Darija guide lists tutors from Morocco who can correct you as you talk.
- Bubblegum has a separate Moroccan Arabic journey, written in Darija.
- Lessons fit your level and whatever you'd like to talk about.
- Darija news and stories you can read or play aloud.
- Stop on any sentence and ask Poppy what it means.
- Saved words come back inside new lessons through Regenerative Review™, so you review by reading.
- Clear, expressive AI voices read every lesson aloud, with a different voice for each speaker.
- There's no way to add your own books or articles.
- A new custom lesson costs us real money to make, so your first one is free, and Bubblegum Pro gives you unlimited custom lessons. The lesson library is free for everyone, because we believe everyone should be able to learn.

Common Questions
Which Moroccan Arabic app should a beginner choose?
If you are serious about learning Moroccan Arabic, start with Bubblegum. Poppy writes lessons at your level about things you like. Or start with uTalk if you want everyday phrases, or Glossika if you'd like to hear full sentences. Darija is written in Arabic letters, and people often type it online with Latin letters and numbers.
How different is Darija from other kinds of Arabic?
Duolingo's own blog on Arabic dialects shows the difference with one greeting. To ask a woman how she is, Moroccan Arabic says كيدايرة؟, Egyptian Arabic says إزايِّك؟, and Syrian Arabic says كيفِك؟. The same post shows that each one also says "not" its own way.
Is Bubblegum free?
Yes. The lesson library is free for everyone, because we believe everyone should be able to learn. It holds lessons that other learners asked Poppy for. A new custom lesson costs us real money to make, so your first one is free, and Bubblegum Pro gives you unlimited custom lessons.
