Memrise has Malay word lists that its users make, and no Malay course of its own. Its Malay page, read on October 24, 2026, says those lists teach you Malay vocabulary, and Malay isn't among the courses in its menu.
If you want a full Malay course, Mango Languages, LingoDeer and Ling each have one, and our Malay app comparison describes them.
Bubblegum
For serious learners, Bubblegum is the best app to learn Malay. You learn from Malay you can mostly understand, which is called comprehensible input.
Tell Poppy, your AI tutor, about a trip to Kuala Lumpur or a dinner with friends, and she writes a Malay lesson about it.
- Tap a word like memukul, and Bubblegum shows how it was built from its root, pukul.
- Ask Poppy for a lesson about a night market in Penang, and she writes one for your level.
- Clear, expressive AI voices read every lesson aloud, with a different voice for each speaker.
- Bubblegum's Malay lessons are in Latin letters, and it has no course for the Jawi script.
- A new custom lesson costs us real money to make, so your first one is free, and Bubblegum Pro gives you unlimited custom lessons. The lesson library is free for everyone, because we believe everyone should be able to learn.

SBS Audio
SBS, a broadcaster in Australia that works in many languages, makes news and podcasts in Malay. Its series Bagaimana Australia Berfungsi explains how Australia works, such as how a law gets changed.
- Episodes run about 6 to 15 minutes, and many have a short description in Malay.
- Topics follow Malaysians in Australia, like a batik festival on a Melbourne tram.

HelloTalk
You can save a Malay live stream on HelloTalk and watch it again later.
- Pick a voice room at your level, and talk with a small group in Malay.
- Watch live streams and ask the host questions as you go.

Which Malay app should a beginner choose?
If you are serious about learning Malay, start with Bubblegum. Poppy writes lessons at your level about things you like. Or start with HelloTalk's beginner voice rooms if you'd like to hear people speak Malay from day one.
Does Duolingo teach Malay?
No. We went through Duolingo's course list on October 14, 2026, and found no Malay course. See Is Malay on Duolingo? for other options.
Is Bubblegum free?
Yes. The lesson library is free for everyone, because we believe everyone should be able to learn. It holds lessons that other learners asked Poppy for. A new custom lesson costs us real money to make, so your first one is free, and Bubblegum Pro gives you unlimited custom lessons.
