Is Latvian on Duolingo? What to Use Instead in 2026

Quick answer

No. The list Duolingo published, read October 14, 2026, offered no way to learn Latvian. For lessons in order, try Ling or Mondly; for sentences you hear and repeat, try Glossika; for words and sentence games, try uTalk or Clozemaster; and for lessons about your own interests, try Bubblegum.

Latvian isn't taught on Duolingo. There was no Latvian course on Duolingo's own list when we read it on October 14, 2026.

If you're after bite-size lessons on your phone, these apps teach Latvian. They're sorted into three kinds: a course in order, listening to sentences, and word games. Our best apps to learn Latvian also covers tutors, language exchange, and free courses from Latvia.

Custom Lessons Made for You

Bubblegum

For serious learners, Bubblegum is the best app to learn Latvian. You learn from Latvian you can mostly understand, which is called comprehensible input.

Poppy is your AI tutor in Bubblegum, and she writes your Latvian lessons. If you're heading to Riga for a summer concert, she can write a talk with a friend about the show, and you can listen to it as you read.

Bubblegum can't be your speaking partner. When you want one, go to the tutors and exchange apps in our full Latvian comparison.

          Common Questions

Which Latvian app should a beginner choose?

If you are serious about learning Latvian, start with Bubblegum. Poppy writes lessons at your level about things you like. Or start with Ling if you want a course that sets the order, or Glossika if you'd like lots of listening. Latvian uses the Latin alphabet, and a line over a vowel, as in ā, makes that vowel long.

Can I take a free Latvian course in Latvia?

Some people can. The Integration and Inclusion Agency of Latvia says four organizations offer free Latvian courses for citizens of countries outside the European Union. Its page lists the providers and how to apply.

          Is Bubblegum free?

Yes. The lesson library is free for everyone, because we believe everyone should be able to learn. It holds lessons that other learners asked Poppy for. A new custom lesson costs us real money to make, so your first one is free, and Bubblegum Pro gives you unlimited custom lessons.
