Duolingo's course list, read on October 15, 2026, has one Vietnamese course, taught from English, and no course for Central Vietnamese. Duolingo's course page doesn't name an accent, and reviews by Migaku and Nutty Vietnamese say the course teaches Northern Vietnamese, as spoken in Hanoi.
Central Vietnamese is spoken in the middle of the country, in cities such as Huế and Đà Nẵng. People there say mô for "where," răng for "why," and rứa for "so" or "like that." Our Vietnamese app comparison compares more apps and explains how the three accents differ.
Custom Lessons Made for You
Bubblegum
For serious learners, Bubblegum is the best app to learn Central Vietnamese. You learn from Central Vietnamese you can mostly understand, which is called comprehensible input.
Poppy, your AI tutor, writes Central Vietnamese lessons for your level, about the things you choose. Ask for a walk along the Perfume River, and a neighbor calls out đi mô rứa?, which means "where are you off to?" Tap a word you don't know, or ask Poppy how răng is used.

Common Questions
Which Central Vietnamese app should a beginner choose?
If you are serious about learning Central Vietnamese, start with Bubblegum. Poppy writes lessons at your level about things you like. Or book a trial lesson on italki with a tutor from Huế or Đà Nẵng.
Is Central Vietnamese spelled differently?
No. All of Vietnam writes with the same letters and tone marks. The sounds change, though: in Central and Southern speech, d sounds like the English "y" and r keeps an r sound, while Hanoi says both like a "z."
Is Bubblegum free?
Yes. The lesson library is free for everyone, because we believe everyone should be able to learn. It holds lessons that other learners asked Poppy for. A new custom lesson costs us real money to make, so your first one is free, and Bubblegum Pro gives you unlimited custom lessons.
