Is Catalan on Duolingo? What to Use Instead in 2026

Quick answer

Not from English. On October 14, 2026, Duolingo's course list taught Catalan only from Spanish. For word games, try Drops or uTalk; for a course that picks your next lesson, try Ling; for sentence practice, try Glossika or Clozemaster; and for lessons written at your level, try Bubblegum.

Duolingo has a Catalan course, and it is taught from Spanish. We checked on October 14, 2026: that Spanish-based course was the only Catalan one, so English speakers had no Catalan course to take.

If you'd like to learn from English, these apps teach Catalan. We sorted them by the parts of Duolingo people tend to enjoy: word games, a guided path, and sentence practice. Tutors, language exchange, and free government courses are in our Catalan app comparison.

Custom Lessons Made for You

Bubblegum

For serious learners, Bubblegum is the best app to learn Catalan. You learn from Catalan you can mostly understand, which is called comprehensible input.

In Bubblegum, your AI tutor, Poppy, builds each Catalan lesson from the topics you choose. For a weekend in Girona, she can write the chat you'd have at a bakery there, pitched at your level and read aloud. If a word or a verb ending puzzles you, she explains it.

Bubblegum is not a conversation partner. When you want to speak, our comparison page points to tutors and a volunteer exchange program.

      Sentence Practice

Duolingo builds lessons from sentences, and these apps do too.

      Glossika

With Glossika, you hear a Catalan sentence read by someone who grew up speaking it, then practice saying it. Glossika's help page says Catalan will always be free to study.

      • A course of 5,000+ words and sentences, starting at beginner level.
      • Glossika offers its Catalan course for free.
      • Some features, such as recording, need a subscription.

        MobileWeb

        Clozemaster

Clozemaster shows a Catalan sentence with one word missing, and you pick or type it. The sentences go from common words to rarer ones.

        • Learn each word inside a real sentence.
        • Sentences return for review as you keep playing.
        • Its page calls it a complement to a Catalan course, so pair it with one.

          Common Questions

Which Catalan app should a beginner choose?

If you are serious about learning Catalan, start with Bubblegum. Poppy writes lessons at your level about things you like. Or start with Drops if you want quick word games, or Glossika if you'd like a free course built on sentences. Catalan is a Romance language, from the same family as Spanish and French, and it is written in the Latin alphabet.

Is Catalan on Duolingo for English speakers?

No. The only Catalan course on Duolingo's list is the one taught from Spanish, and it had about 1.1 million learners on October 14, 2026. To take it, you'd set Spanish as the language you learn from.

          Is Bubblegum free?

Yes. The lesson library is free for everyone, because we believe everyone should be able to learn. It holds lessons that other learners asked Poppy for. A new custom lesson costs us real money to make, so your first one is free, and Bubblegum Pro gives you unlimited custom lessons.
