Best Apps for Uzbek Comprehensible Input in 2026

Stories, audio, and videos can all help you learn Uzbek when you can follow what they mean. That is the idea behind comprehensible input: learning from Uzbek you can mostly understand. Uzbek written for learners is hard to find, and a reply on Reddit says there is very little content online for learning Uzbek on your own.

These apps and sites give you Uzbek at your level, or help you follow the Uzbek you pick yourself. For courses, speaking practice, and tutors, see our Uzbek app comparison.

Custom Lessons Made for You

Bubblegum

Learn Uzbek with a path made just for you. Start with your level, what you like, and why you want to learn. Your path grows as you learn, with new lessons that fit you. Bubblegum also has news and stories, so you can read and listen to a mix of Uzbek about music, food, family, or daily life.

Poppy, your AI tutor, writes each lesson for your level, interests, and goals. If a sentence is hard to follow, just ask her to explain the words or the grammar.

The trade-off is that Bubblegum can't help you read or watch Uzbek you found yourself. For a news site, a book, or a video you already picked, the tools in Read and Watch Uzbek You Choose are the better fit.

  • More than 4,000 e-books and audiobooks in Uzbek, from fairy tales to novels.
  • More than 100 fairy tales to listen to.
  • Professional voice actors read the books, and some are People's Artists of Uzbekistan.

  • Everything is in Uzbek, so it suits learners who already know the basics.
  • Some books need Mutolaa Premium.

Read and Watch Uzbek You Choose

These tools help you learn from Uzbek web pages, books, and videos you pick yourself, such as the news sites and films below. They suit learners who know the basics.

    Readlang

Readlang added Uzbek in 2024. It helps you read Uzbek articles, books, and web pages, and it saves the words you look up so you can review them later.

    • Tap a word or short phrase to see what it means.
    • Ask for a short explanation, in English, of what a phrase means in its sentence.
    • Upload your own texts, or read Uzbek web pages with its Chrome extension.
    • Save new words and review them with flashcards.
    • The free plan lets you translate 10 phrases a day. Single words have no limit.
    • Its audio upload, for reading along with a recording, does not include Uzbek.
    • Menus stay in English, even when you choose another language for word meanings.

    Language Reactor

Language Reactor adds learning tools to YouTube in Chrome. Many Uzbek videos on YouTube, such as talk shows and lessons made in Uzbekistan, have automatic Uzbek subtitles, so you can use it with them. It is free to install, with paid extras.

    • See Uzbek subtitles beside a translation on YouTube.
    • Look up words in a pop-up dictionary.
    • Pause and replay one line when it goes too fast.
    • Its video library has no Uzbek videos yet, so you find your own.
    • Most Uzbek videos have only automatic subtitles, and a learner on Reddit found that YouTube can mistake the speech for Turkish.
    • The extension needs Chrome on a computer.

Free Lessons, Stories, Films, and News

Some free lessons and books are made for learners. For video lessons in English, learners on Reddit most often suggest Ibrat Farzandlari's free Uzbek language for beginners series on YouTube, which runs from greetings to shopping at the bazaar. GLOSS, from the US Defense Language Institute, has more than 140 free Uzbek reading and listening lessons, from a talk with a taxi driver to news reports, and learners on Reddit point to it for its native audio and texts. Bloom Library has more than 200 free books in Uzbek, mostly short picture books for children, and many also come in English or Russian.

For watching, learners on Reddit suggest older Uzbek films such as Osmondagi bolalar, Abdullajon, and Shum bola, and many Uzbek films are on YouTube. For talk, one reply suggests interviews from Kun.uz over popular podcasts, because many people on those podcasts use a lot of Russian.

We found no site that writes the news in easy Uzbek. When you can follow news made for Uzbek readers, BBC News O‘zbek, Amerika Ovozi, the Uzbek service of Voice of America, and Kun.uz are free to read. A learner on Reddit who reached level B1 says that after A2 they mostly just read, and now they read BBC News in Uzbek with a dictionary.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to learn the Uzbek alphabet first?

It helps, and it is quick. Uzbek uses a Latin alphabet, and most letters read the way they look. The ones to learn first are oʻ, gʻ, the small break sign ʼ, q, x, and the letter teams sh, ch, and ng. Bubblegum's free Uzbek Alphabet course teaches them in two short chapters, right in your browser.

Do I need to read Cyrillic too?

Sooner or later, yes. Uzbekistan began switching from Cyrillic to the Latin alphabet in 1993, and more than 30 years later both are still in wide use. Kun.uz and Gazeta.uz offer both alphabets, and Radio Ozodlik writes mostly in Cyrillic. BBC News O‘zbek opens in Cyrillic, with a Latin version one click away.

Can Turkish help me understand Uzbek?

Yes. A Turkish speaker on Reddit says they understand about 60% of Uzbek words, and another learner says a Turkish friend follows 70 to 80% of what he hears on Uzbek radio. One difference shows up quickly: Uzbek has no vowel harmony, so the plural ending is always -lar, as in gullar (flowers), where Turkish says güller.

    Is Bubblegum free?

Yes. The lesson library is free for everyone, because we believe everyone should be able to learn. It holds lessons that other learners asked Poppy for. A new custom lesson costs us real money to make, so you can ask Poppy for a free one, and Bubblegum Pro gives you unlimited custom lessons.

The Uzbek Alphabet course on this site is also free and needs no account.
