Best Apps for Serbian Comprehensible Input in 2026

Stories, audio, and videos can all help you learn Serbian when you can follow what they mean. That is the idea behind comprehensible input: learning from Serbian you can mostly understand. Learners on Reddit say there is little Serbian made for learners, so easy material can take some looking for.

These apps and sites help you find Serbian at your level, or make the Serbian you choose easier to follow. For courses, speaking practice, and tutors, see our Serbian app comparison.

Custom Lessons Made for You

Bubblegum

Learn Serbian with a path made just for you. Start with your level, what you like, and why you want to learn. Your path grows as you learn, with new lessons that fit you. Bubblegum also has news and stories, so you can read and listen to a mix of Serbian about music, food, family, or daily life.

Poppy, your AI tutor, writes each lesson for you. If a sentence is hard to follow, just ask her to explain the words or why an ending changed.

The trade-off is that Bubblegum can't help you read Serbian you found yourself. For a book, an article, or a video you already picked, the apps in Read and Watch Serbian You Choose are the better fit.

Watch Serbian TV and Hear the News

RTS Planeta

RTS Planeta is the streaming app of RTS, Serbia's public broadcaster. A learner on r/Serbian suggests quiz shows such as Slagalica, because each question stands on its own, so you don't need to follow a plot.

  • Watch RTS TV channels live and listen to Radio Beograd.
  • Some series have Serbian captions, so you can read along as you listen.
  • Watch the latest RTS news without making an account.
  • Outside Serbia, RTS Svet, Radio Beograd, and the video and audio libraries are free. The other TV channels are free only in Serbia.
  • Its shows are made for people who already speak Serbian.

SBS Audio

SBS Audio carries SBS Serbian, which a learner on r/Serbian lists among podcasts for hearing the news in Serbian. It suits learners who know the basics and want real news.

  • News in Serbian from SBS, Australia's public broadcaster.
  • A news summary of about 15 minutes on most weekdays, plus full programs and interviews.
  • Listen free in the SBS Audio app, on the web, or as a podcast.

These tools help you learn from Serbian books, articles, and videos you pick yourself. They suit learners who already know what they want to read or watch.

LingQ

LingQ lets you read and listen to Serbian from its library or bring in your own. It highlights the words you have not met yet and the words you are still learning. A learner on r/Serbian says its beginner stories repeat words and phrases a lot, which helped their listening.

  • Read Step by Step Serbian, a 32-lesson course, or Serbian books such as Harry Potter.
  • Import your own Serbian texts and videos, and review words with flashcards.

More Serbian to Watch, Hear, and Read

Comprehensible Serbian makes YouTube videos for comprehensible input, from simple stories for beginners at A1 and A2 to easy vlogs. Its full course is paid, with captions in both alphabets. Serbian with Boko, a teacher from Niš whom learners on Reddit suggest for beginners, posts free videos about words, grammar, and pronunciation. Many learners on r/Serbian also watch cartoons dubbed in Serbian, such as Peppa Pig.

For podcasts, try Unlock your Serbian. Each week, two teachers, Nevena and Jelena, talk about one topic in two episodes, one for beginners (A1 to B1.1) and one for advanced learners (B1.2 to C1). Serbian with Katarina tells short, funny stories in Serbian and then asks very simple questions about them. Learn Serbian Podcast has listening practice for beginners and advanced learners, and many episodes come with a full transcript.

For reading, Serbian-Reader.com sells readers sorted by level. Its first one, Idemo dalje 1, has 35 short A1 texts printed in both alphabets, and it also comes as an audiobook. Serbian Story has free short stories for A1 and A2 in Cyrillic, with English translations and audio. We found no site that rewrites the news in easy Serbian, so RTS and SBS Serbian above are the next step once you know the basics.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I read Serbian in Cyrillic or Latin letters?

Learn both, because you will meet both. Serbia's constitution makes Cyrillic the official script, but newspapers, websites, and publishers each pick one or the other. Each Cyrillic letter matches one Latin letter, so the second alphabet comes quickly. Duostories uses Latin letters, while SBS Serbian and Serbian Story write in Cyrillic. Bubblegum's free Serbian Cyrillic course teaches all 30 letters in eight short chapters, right in your browser.

How much of a text should I understand?

Pick something where you already know almost every word. In one study, readers needed to know about 98 out of 100 words in a story to follow it well. If you stop on almost every line, try something easier.

Is Bubblegum free?

Yes. The lesson library is free for everyone, because we believe everyone should be able to learn. It holds lessons that other learners asked Poppy for. A new custom lesson costs us real money to make, so you can ask Poppy for a free one, and Bubblegum Pro gives you unlimited custom lessons.
